In the complaint addressed to the District Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, the KSU stated that Karbi people from Assam are involved in illegal sand mining at Umiam River in Amphreng Village, Raid Lymphuid (Khyriem Syiemship), Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya.
“The sand mining activities have encroached upon the private property owned by Mr. Minus Sakra, who is the Headman and a permanent resident of Amphreng Village. Therefore, the Union strongly condemns these unlawful activities, which violate the territorial integrity of Meghalaya, and demands immediate and stringent action against the land intruders,” said Toning Lapang, the President of KSU Umden Circle, in the letter to the DC.
