Shillong, Jul 14: Activists of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Shillong Mihngi Circle on Tuesday locked a temple they allege was built illegally inside the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office here and issued a one-week deadline to authorities to demolish it.
Led by KSU CEC Assistant Organising Secretary Jeremiah Pohthmi, a delegation met the DIG of CBI to raise the issue.
According to KSU, the meeting turned heated after officials failed to give a firm assurance, prompting the union to lock the structure in protest.
Speaking after the protest, Pohthmi said the union had raised the matter with CBI officials in previous years and was then assured that no further construction would take place inside the government office.

However, he claimed the union received information in recent days that work on the temple had resumed.
Following an inspection, KSU alleged the construction was nearing completion inside the premises.
“We have given the concerned authorities one week to demolish this temple built inside a government office. If no action is taken within this period, the union will be forced to take further stronger steps,” Pohthmi said.
The union said it will continue to monitor the matter and expects the CBI office to uphold rules prohibiting unauthorized structures on government premises.
