Shillong, July 14: Ri-Bhoi district’s progress under the Centre’s Aspirational Districts Programme, particularly in the health sector, came in for praise during a review chaired by Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh.
Sharing the update on social media, Singh said the Meghalaya district has made “significant progress” across various development indicators, with notable improvements in health-related parameters.
He said the Deputy Commissioner presented a detailed status report during the review, highlighting the district’s performance against prescribed benchmarks.

Describing the Aspirational Districts Programme as a unique model of “competitive federalism”, Singh said districts are evaluated through real-time monitoring of objective, evidence-based and statistically supported indicators, enabling focused governance and measurable outcomes.
He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “out-of-the-box thinking” for conceptualising the programme, saying it has transformed the way development is monitored and implemented in some of the country’s most underserved districts.
Ri-Bhoi is one of the 112 districts across India selected under the Aspirational Districts Programme, which seeks to accelerate socio-economic development through improved performance in health, education, agriculture, financial inclusion and basic infrastructure.
