KVK Ri Bhoi trains farmers in scientific pond management

Ri Bhoi, Mar 7: Farmers in Ri Bhoi and nearby areas were given fish fingerlings to help them in increased fish production and better farm incomes.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Ri Bhoi, under the ICAR Research Complex for the NEH Region, Umiam, successfully conducted a Fish Fingerling Distribution Programme alongside training on scientific pond management to promote sustainable and profitable fish farming among local farmers.

Held on March 7, the program aimed to equip farmers with high-quality fish seeds and scientific knowledge to enhance their fish farming practices. Experts from KVK Ri Bhoi provided hands-on training in modern aquaculture techniques, efficient pond management, and sustainable fish farming methods to improve productivity and profitability.

Speaking at the event, Bankitkupar Mukhim, Subject Matter Specialist (Fisheries), highlighted the importance of quality fish seeds and scientific management practices in boosting farmers’ incomes and enhancing overall fish farming efficiency. The initiative underscores KVK Ri Bhoi’s commitment to empowering farmers with research-based solutions for sustainable livelihood development.

Dr. Mokidul Islam, Principal Scientist and Head KVK, Ri-Bhoi, distributed the fingerlings to farmers in the presence of other ICAR KVK Ri Bhoi staff.
