Williamnagar, July 24: One person has been arrested in connection with the suspected abduction of a 6-year-old girl who went missing near her home in Rajasimla on Friday, July 18, in broad daylight.
The accused, identified as Sonjith Arengh, had been absconding since the incident, police said.

Arengh had reportedly spent the night of July 22 in the Rongjeng area and moved to Adokgre Mitegitim the following day. Acting on a tip-off, a police team reached Mitegitim around 6:30 PM yesterday to apprehend him. However, Arengh managed to flee upon spotting the police. Although his belongings, including a bag and some clothing, were recovered, he initially evaded arrest.

Early this morning, villagers from Adokgre Mitegitim apprehended the suspect around 7:00 AM and handed him over to the police at approximately 11:00 AM. He is currently in custody at Kharkutta Police Station and is being interrogated. Police officials confirmed that he will be produced before the court tomorrow.
Sources further revealed that Sonjith Arengh is a repeat offender with a serious criminal history under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. In 2017, he was booked in a POCSO case registered at Kharkutta Police Station. He was out on bail and facing trial in the District Court at the time of the current incident.
