Manipur CM visits Kanto Sabal, begins rebuilding homes destroyed in arson attack

Imphal, July 15: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday visited Kanto Sabal village in Imphal West district, where he oversaw the reconstruction of six houses that were destroyed in a recent arson attack, while appealing for peace and communal harmony.

Addressing residents, Singh stressed that lasting peace was essential for the state’s recovery and development.

“Without peace, there can be no development,” he said, adding that progress in infrastructure, education and healthcare depends on a stable and secure environment.

The chief minister urged all communities to foster mutual trust, understanding and peaceful coexistence, saying unity was the cornerstone of Manipur’s future.

He also reiterated the government’s commitment to restoring free movement along the National Highways traversing the state, describing the return to normalcy as one of the administration’s top priorities.

During the visit, the Village Development Committee of Kanto Sabal, along with local Meira Paibis and club representatives, submitted a memorandum seeking enhanced security, protection for residents and measures to ensure unhindered movement in the area.

Responding to the memorandum, Singh assured the villagers that their concerns would be addressed on priority in consultation with the relevant departments and security agencies.

The chief minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to restoring normalcy, ensuring public safety and continuing development initiatives across the state.

The visit comes days after six abandoned houses belonging to displaced Meitei families were set ablaze in Kanto Sabal, triggering widespread condemnation and renewed concerns over the security of displaced communities in conflict-hit Manipur.
