Imphal, Jan 6: Four people were killed after a truck carrying passengers plunged down a steep hillside in Churachandpur district on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The accident occurred around noon in the condemned field area when the vehicle, reportedly carrying around 30–40 people, lost control on a steep stretch of road just before reaching Ngaljang village under the Singngat Sub-Division.

The passengers were travelling to attend a marriage send-off ceremony at Ngaljang village. According to police sources, the driver of the DI truck failed to negotiate the sharp incline, causing the vehicle to roll down the hillside and overturn multiple times.
“The driver lost control of the truck on the steep road, following which it plunged down the slope, overturning several times. Four people died on the spot, while several others sustained injuries,” a police official said.
The deceased have been identified as Thangmuanmung Khuptonh, Hauchiin, Chingngaihsiam, and Niangzaniang. The injured were rushed to nearby medical facilities, and further details are awaited.
