Manipur: Main suspect in Moreh Officer’s assassination nabbed with weapons

Imphal, Jan 16: The joint operation near Moreh College in the international border town, involving the Special Commando Unit, a combat team, and Moreh police, marked a crucial step forward in apprehending the culprits responsible for the assassination of the late police officer, Ch. Anand Singh.

The operation unfolded during a routine patrol when two suspicious individuals, upon noticing the presence of security vehicles, escalated the situation by opening fire. In response to this threat, the combined teams acted swiftly, effectively retaliating and immediately cordoning off the suspected houses where the assailants sought refuge.

The operation resulted in the detention of two suspects identified as Philip Khaikholal Khongsai and Hemkholal Mate, Finance Secretary of the Mate Tribe Union.

The arrest took place at 4:40 p.m. near Moreh College, with the recovery of significant items, including one pistol with two live rounds, a Chinese hand grenade, ten live rounds of AK ammunition, and ten detonators with fuses.

Philip is identified as the main accused in the assassination of Manipur police officer Late Ch. Anand Singh.

Meanwhile, locals from the villages of the two suspects attempted to storm the Moreh police station, aiming to free the apprehended individuals.
