Imphal, Jan 20: Manipur Police have arrested four militants belonging to different proscribed outfits in separate operations in Imphal, officials said on Monday.
The arrests were made for alleged involvement in extortion activities and recruitment of new cadres in the valley districts.
According to police, two cadres of the banned National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) were apprehended from the New Checkon area in Imphal East district. They were identified as Phamdom Mangalsana Singh alias Chingsanglakpa (34), a resident of Phumlou Awang Leikai, and Moirangthem Nepolian Meitei alias Chingkhei (26) of Nganhkha Lawai Maning Leikai.
In a separate operation the same day, security personnel arrested an alleged extortionist linked to the United National Liberation Front (UNLF). The accused, identified as Ningthoujam Sanathoi Singh (26) of Yourabung Khunou Ward IV under Lamlai police station, was picked up from his residence. A mobile phone was recovered from his possession.
Police said search and combing operations have been intensified across the state following the outbreak of ethnic violence between Imphal Valley-based Meitei and hill-based Kuki-Zo groups in May 2023.
