Guwahati, Dec 11: Believe it or not, a heritage luxury linked edition watch that is believed to have been used by football legend Late Deigo Maradona, which was ‘safely’ kept in Dubai and got stolen, has been recovered in Assam. It was recovered on Saturday morning from the possession of a Assam resident who used to work in Dubai and had returned back to Assam recently, Assam police said .
Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was the first to break the story on Twitter where he posted: “In an act of international cooperation @assampolice has coordinated with @dubaipoliceHQ through Indian federal LEA to recover a heritage @Hublot watch belonging to legendary footballer Late Diego Maradona and arrested one Wazid Hussein. Follow up lawful action is being taken.”

Giving out more details, Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said, “The watch belonged to the legendary Football player himself, which was being stored in Dubai along with other belongings in a safe. As informed through Central Agency by Dubai Police, one Wazid Hussain had stolen a limited edition Maradona signed Hublot watch and fled to Assam.”
“Today morning at 4:00AM we arrested Wazid Hussian from his residence in Sibsagar. The limited edition watch has been recovered from him”.
Earlier the DGP had tweeted: “A costly Hublot watch… Maradona… Dubai… Assam Police… Looks like random words, don’t they? But today all these words came together nicely, stating a story of successful International Cooperation between #DubaiPolice and @assampolice.”

According to police, Qazid Hussian worked as a security guard in Dubai in a private company that was storing the late Maradona’s belonging. After working for few days, he seemingly got permission from his employers to return to India since his father was unwell. He had returned on August 15 this year and was shuttling between his own house in sibasagar and his in-law’s place in neighbouring Cheriadeo district.
Diego Maradona was seen wearing two Hublot Big Bang watches during the FIFA World Cup 2010, that’s when Hublot launched its Maradona Big Bang Chronograph Limited Edition.
The watch has the football legend with his arms raised in victory engraved on the back of the Hublot Big Bang Maradona case, and his signature and jersey number.
