Shillong, July 29: The Meghalaya Confederation for Academic Welfare (MeCAW) on Thursday called on the new Vice-Chancellor of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla.

In the meeting, MeCAW expressed its concerns over the anomalies and alleged flouting of rules by previous Vice Chancellor for the last six years.

The MeCAW expressed its shock over the alleged scam in the CDD, which the CBI is currently investigating. It told the new VC not to provide any position to those whose name has been named in the alleged anomalies so that full enquiry into all such scams can be completed in the interest of NEHU.

The MeCAW also urged the newly VC that for smooth functioning of the University and for uplifting it from its current low ranking, local aspirations need to be included.

In its memorandum submitted to the VC, MeCAW also asserted the need for quick appointment of a qualified local Pro-VC of Shillong campus to build up a bridge with the local community for advancement of academic interests of Meghalaya and the region.
