Shillong, July 5: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Sunday led a delegation of senior church and community leaders to New Delhi to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging the Centre to address concerns over the implementation of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).
The delegation included representatives of the Presbyterian Church of India, the Catholic Church and the Garo Baptist Convention, who highlighted the impact of FCRA-related issues on religious and community institutions in the state.
During the meeting, the delegation sought the Union government’s support to ensure the smooth functioning of these institutions and safeguard the interests of the people of Meghalaya.

Sangma said the Home Minister gave the delegation a patient hearing and thanked him for considering their concerns.
“The Government of Meghalaya remains committed to protecting the interests of its people and institutions,” the Chief Minister said after the meeting.
The visit comes amid growing concerns among several faith-based organisations over FCRA-related compliance and funding issues affecting institutions engaged in education, healthcare and social service activities.
