Shillong, July 20: For the first time, a musical show was organised inside a natural cave at Arwah in Sohra sub-division in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya.

Clean Sohra Campaign in collaboration with Meghalaya Grassroot Music project powered by Meghalaya Tourism held the first ever musical show in the natural cave.

The purpose of the event was two fold – to promote tourism by adding music value to the tourists’ trip to Meghalaya and, secondly, to nurture the local natural talents.

Clean Sohra Campaign leader Alan West Kharkongor said, “The idea of conducting such a unique event is to tell the world, how important it is to take responsibility to protect and preserve mother nature, whether it is the cave, the streams, the waterfalls and so on. This calls for a celebration of the scenic beauty that the Sohra area is blessed with and folksy music is the best way to message such a purpose.”

Folk-fusion band Summersalt was invited to play their songs from their second album and also to interact with the young musicians of Sohra.

“It gave us so much purpose to be able to jam and play the songs of the young musicians. We were there to do our part and encourage the upcoming artistes who performed soulfully,” said Kit Shangpliang of Summersalt.

The people of Sohra were enthralled with the performance of the musical band.
