SHILLONG, JUN 18: The Meghalaya High Court has set aside an FIR against Ulrich Jordan Mawlong, ruling there was no bar to quashing the case after the complainant and injured, both his relatives, agreed to a settlement.
The order was passed by a bench headed by Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere on Wednesday (June 17) after hearing a petition filed by Mawlong, Dondor Jarain and George Jarain.
The FIR at Sadar Police Station stemmed from a January 24, 2024 incident where Mawlong allegedly struck his mother-in-law George Jarain with a screwdriver during a heated exchange at home, causing a minor cut on her right hand.
The case was registered under Section 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.
Dondor Jarain, the brother of the injured and complainant in the case, appeared via video conference along with George Jarain.

Both told the court they had resolved the matter and signed a Deed of Settlement, a copy of which was filed before the court.
Noting the family relationship and the fact that the injury was simple in nature, the bench said there was no impediment in allowing the petition.
“Considering the nature of dispute, the relationship between the parties and the amicable settlement between them, there is no impediment in allowing the petition,” Chief Justice Dere observed while pronouncing the oral judgment while quashing GR Case No. 33(A) of 2026 pending before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Shillong along with all consequential proceedings.
