Shillong, Dec 3: The Meghalaya High Court has directed the Officer-in-Charge of Mawsynram Police Station to inform the Syiem of Hima Mawsynram about the pendency of a case and to ensure his appearance or engagement of a counsel on the next hearing date.

The court noted that despite being served on October 3, 2025, there was no appearance on behalf of the Syiem. The direction was given to complete the process as per the Division Bench’s orders.

The case was in relation to a petition filed by the Yatra in connection with the Mawjymbuin cave in Mawsynram.

“This Court notes that his appearance is necessary in view of the directions of the Division Bench to complete the process. Accordingly, the Officer Incharge of Mawsynram Police Station is directed to inform the respondent No. 10 (Syiem of Hima Mawsynram) of the pendency of this case along with a copy of this order which will be furnished by the Regis try, for appearance, or for engagement of a counsel before the next date,” said Justice HS Thangkhiew in his order passed on Tuesday.

Additionally, the court expressed concern over the absence of a police picket at the site, despite previous orders to maintain security, and expects the authorities to ensure security is maintained in the area.

“It is expected that as per the orders of this Court, the security should be maintained in the area,” the order stated.
