SHILLONG, FEB 12: The Meghalaya High Court has granted the state government a four-week extension to file a detailed report on the identification and preservation of heritage buildings, artefacts, and structures in the state.

The order, passed by a division bench comprising Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W Diengdoh, directs the Heritage Committee to submit an affidavit detailing steps taken for restoration and preservation of heritage sites, as required under Section 3 of the Meghalaya Heritage Act, 2012.

The court had previously sought the committee’s report on the heritage status of a building with apparent historical importance.

“The said affidavit to be filed with the Registry within
two weeks with an advance copy to the learned Amicus,” the bench said in its order passed on February 11.

The matter has been adjourned to March 11, 2026, for further hearing.
