Must read

Shillong, Dec 11: The Meghalaya High Court has granted interim bail to a law student accused of sexually assaulting a woman at an event in Shillong on November 19, 2025.

The court directed the accused to cooperate with the investigation and not to tamper with evidence or contact the complainant.

The case, filed under Section 64(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, alleges that the complainant was sexually assaulted while she was resting in a room at the Arunachal Boys’ Hostel.

The accused had approached the High Court after his anticipatory bail application was rejected by the Sessions Judge, Shillong.

“As prayed for, in the meantime, the applicant is allowed to go on interim bail. However, he shall not abscond or tamper with any evidence, and he shall also have no contact whatsoever with the complainant in course of investigation. Needless to say, he shall also cooperate with the investigation as and when required,” Justice W Diengdoh said in his order passed on Wednesday.

The court has directed the Investigating Officer to produce the case diary on the next hearing, scheduled for December 16.
