Meghalaya Model United Nations marks the beginning of highly anticipated Garo Hills MUN edition

Tura, July 14: In a celebration of diplomacy and global cooperation, the Meghalaya Model United Nations (MMUN) marked the beginning of the highly anticipated Garo Hills MUN edition with a splendid opening ceremony. The event was held at Don Bosco College of Teachers Education, Tura.

The picturesque capital of the Garo Hills region in Meghalaya, witnessed the convergence of young delegates from various educational institutions across Garo Hills region.

The Garo Hills MUN edition, an integral part of the Meghalaya Model United Nations program, aims to foster an environment for the youth to engage in discussions and debates on pertinent global issues. This edition focuses specifically on the challenges of sustainable development, climate change, and human rights.

The opening ceremony commenced with an enthralling cultural performance that showcased the rich heritage and traditions of the Garo community. Dressed in vibrant traditional attire, performers mesmerized the audience with their captivating dance routines and melodious tunes. The ceremony succeeded in reflecting the essence and cultural diversity of Meghalaya.

The event was graced by Aditya Verma, IAS, Assistant Commissioner West Garo Hills. Adding a touch of prestige to the event, he highlighted the significance of “Perspective” in empathising with the other nations under global crisis. He also focused on youth involvement in shaping the future and encouraged the delegates to actively participate in the discussions, emphasizing the importance of finding sustainable solutions to global challenges.

The ceremony also featured an address by Father Bivan Mukhim, the Principal of the Don Bosco College, Tura, who emphasized the educational benefits of participating in MUN conferences. He also mentioned about the importance of Statesmanship which is the need of the hour in the State at large. He also focused on leadership skills, critical thinking, and diplomacy among the youth in becoming the future leaders in the state.

Following the speeches, the Secretary-General of Meghalaya MUN, Ms. Senrita Raksam Marak, presented an overview of the Garo Hills MUN edition, elaborating on the committee sessions, topics and the efforts put in to establish the prestigious Garo Hills MUN.

The Garo Hills MUN edition comprises several committees, including the General Assembly, United Nations Environment Assembly, Lok Sabha and the International Press Corps, where delegates will discuss and deliberate on pressing global issues. With a range of topics covering sustainable development, climate change, and human rights, participants will have the opportunity to enhance their understanding of international affairs and develop their negotiation and diplomacy skills.

The Garo Hills MUN edition is set to continue for the next three days, providing a platform for the youth of Meghalaya to delve into the intricacies of international diplomacy and work towards finding viable solutions to global challenges.
