Meghalaya Police probe disturbing video of civilian bribery and abuse

SHILLONG, JAN 13: The Deputy Inspector General (Eastern Range) V Rathore has informed that the state police has taken cognizance of a disturbing video that has been circulating on various social media platforms showing an individual abusing civilians and demanding a bribe.

“The person does not appear to be a member of Meghalaya Police. Nonetheless, we do not appreciate such misconduct and will take strict criminal as well as departmental action,” he said in a social media post.

The DIG informed that an official inquiry has been ordered by the Superintendent of Police (SP), East Khasi Hills Police, Meghalaya, with instructions to submit a report by the evening of the same day.

Based on the investigation, the authorities will pursue strict criminal and departmental action against the individual involved.

The senior police officer has also expressed their deepest apology and anguish over the incident, stating that such misconduct is unacceptable and will be addressed appropriately.
