Meghalaya Raj Bhavan detects 43 cases of COVID-19 within a week

Shillong, May 30: 43 people have tested COVID-19 positive within in week at the Meghalaya Raj Bhavan after 25 people tested positive on Saturday, which added to the tally of 18 positive cases that were detected on May 24, 2021.

After the 18 cases were detected on May 24, a mass testing of high risk contacts of COVID-19 positive cases in Raj Bhavan was done on May 28, 2021, the result of which came out on Saturday (May 29, 2021).

A press statement released by the Secretary to the Governor, Pravin Bakshi on Sunday said the Raj Bhavan identified 80 high risk contacts following the detected cases on May 24, of which 25 returned positive.

“This takes the total figure of positive cases amongst staffers and their family members to 43. Out of these 43 there are 10 children below the age of 15 years. There are 3 who are with co-morbidities,” he said.

He added that the second wave of COVID-19 has been challenging for the Raj Bhavan as even a month back at one time there were 28 positive cases out of which 23 have since recovered .

In the current active cases most of the positive cases are personal staff working in the Main Building and in service of Meghalaya Governor, Satya Pal Malik.

He informed that “under the guidance and supervision of Hon’ble Governor- Raj Bhavan secretariat and doctor are closely monitoring the situation and extending help to the affected persons with medical counseling and other support to the families.”

In addition, he also extended Raj Bhavan’s gratitude to the State Government and Health Department for the regular testing of high risk cases and monitoring of the patients as well as the vaccination drive organized for Raj Bhavan staff.
