Meghalaya Tourism minister inaugurates Tyisam festival at Golden Beach of Baghmara

Baghmara, Jan 28: Meghalaya Tourism Minister T.D.Shira inaugurated a two day long cultural bonanza Tyisam Festival at Golden Beach of Baghmara with much enthusiasm and grandeur on Wednesday.

T.D.Shira expressed his happiness and contentment in participating the two day event while stating that Baghmara Simsang beach reminds him of the famous Marina Beach in Chennai. However the area of sand in Baghmara is much bigger compared to that beach. He said.

The minister urged the gathering to push themselves for domestic tourism by creating an atmosphere that will attract more tourist especially in the Simsang Beach that can enhanced the local economies.

He also said that State Tourism Department is keen on developing Tourism across the state and urged the people of South Garo Hills to fully utilized the available resources and make tourist friendly destination.

The inaugural event featured flower show, vegetable show, singing and dancing competition, indigenous games, beach sports and musical nights featuring the famous Garo Hills band North Wind, Rough Road and local bands.

The event will also showcase the rich cultural heritage and traditions with special emphasized on local cuisine music and varieties of handicrafts and and other local produce.

Local MLA Kartush R Marak and host of other dignitaries were present during the inauguration programme.
