Mid-day meal workers set a deadline for the government to meet their long pending dues

Shillong, May 10: Seeking enchantments for their honorarium and clearance of their long pending dues, the mid-day meal workers have set a deadline for both the Central and State Government to meet with their demands.

The workers under the All JaiƱtia Mid-Day Meal Workers Union (AJMDMWU), during a central executive committee meeting held at Ladthalaboh in Jowai on Monday said that the Union are yet to receive any verbal or written reply from the memorandum they sent through the Governor on April 1.

The AJMDMWU has decided to hold an indefinite hunger strike in Shillong, if the government fails to pay their pending dues.

The union has been demanding an honorarium of Rs 1000 per month, which has not been paid for five months. The honorarium has not been paid for the period of November 2021 to April 2022.

Moreover, union leaders also met the Joint Director of School Education & Literacy, LS Lyngdoh, to take up the issue with the government. The workers also wanted the government to implement a DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) in making payments.
