Minister assures action on frequent power cuts in Ri Bhoi

Shillong, Aug 13: Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal has assured a delegation of the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Ri Bhoi District (SRSRB) to address concerns related to erratic power supply, which has been a significant problem in the district.

“They (delegation) have raised some pertinent points and those which required to be addressed immediately, we will try to see they are addressed (promptly),” Mondal told reporters after the meeting held here on Wednesday.

Mondal acknowledged the power disruption issues and said, “We have explained the various reasons contributing to the problem.”

The Synjuk in its memorandum submitted to the minister has expressed deep concern over the frequent power outages in Ri Bhoi district, Meghalaya, which have significantly impacted daily life, businesses, hospitals, and essential services. Students preparing for their SSLC Selection Examination are particularly affected.

The SRSRB has requested clarification on the reasons behind frequent power outages and steps being taken to prevent them, information on any planned maintenance or upgrades that may be causing the outages, assurance that power supply will be restored promptly in case of failures, plans to upgrade transformer voltage, replace rusted electricity poles, and properly fence transformer sites and plans to fill vacant posts of linemen and other positions.
