Shillong, Sept 15: The body of four-year-old girl, identified as Insaphira Lyngdoh Mawnai who was reported missing on Sunday was found in a suspected case of murder near her home in Nongrah Nonglum, Shillong on Monday morning.
The child’s lifeless body was recovered inside an under-construction house in the locality. Disturbingly, a rock had been placed on her body to submerge it in a small waterlogged pit formed by rainwater.
Confirming the incident, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said forensic experts have been called in and an autopsy will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death.
It maybe mentioned, the girl had gone missing early Sunday morning while playing in the courtyard of her home, at a time when her family members were still asleep. Her disappearance triggered an immediate search to trace the child.
Police have launched a thorough investigation into the incident.
