Dimapur, July 1: A 27-year-old woman who had been missing since June 29 was found dead along the Dhansiri riverbank at Khushiabil in Dimapur on Wednesday morning, bringing a tragic end to a two-day search operation.
The deceased has been identified as Weshete-ü (Atele) Lomi.

According to family members, CCTV footage from the day of her disappearance showed Lomi walking near Lorna Higher Secondary School towards the Dhansiri Bridge in the early hours of June 29. Following her disappearance, relatives, volunteers and well-wishers launched an extensive search operation, circulating her photographs across Dimapur and adjoining areas.

During the search, some witnesses reportedly informed the family that Lomi had been seen in Purana Bazar on June 30. She was allegedly seen getting out of a vehicle to make a purchase at a shop before returning to the same car.

The search ended at around 8.30 am on Wednesday when a passerby spotted a body along the Dhansiri riverbank and alerted the family. Relatives who rushed to the spot later confirmed the identity of the deceased.

Personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), East Police Station, Women Police Station, the forensic team and an Executive Magistrate were present at the scene. After a preliminary examination by the forensic team, SDRF personnel retrieved the body.

Police said no foul play has been established at this stage, but added that investigations are continuing and all possible angles are being examined.
The bereaved family has urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death and ensure that all legal procedures, including a detailed post-mortem examination, are completed.

The body has been shifted to the District Hospital Dimapur morgue for post-mortem examination.
Family members also expressed gratitude to the volunteers, community organisations and residents who joined the search efforts and stood by them during the difficult period.
