Shillong , July 24: NPP legislator from Mawkynrew Banteidor Lyngdoh on Wednesday met Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal requesting his intervention to resolve the recurrent power cuts and inclusion of affected areas under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
Lyngdoh highlighted the difficulties faced by residents in his constituency due to frequent and prolonged power cuts, which are primarily caused by repeated damage to transformers.

He informed that even new transformers tend to malfunction or break down within a short span, further distressing the community.
The legislator requested the Power Minister to conduct a thorough assessment of the quality, capacity, and installation of transformers being supplied and installed in the affected areas besides strengthening the local power infrastructure to ensure durability and safety of electrical distribution.

He also urged the Power Minister to consider including the affected areas under the RDSS, which aims to improve the quality and reliability of power supply in urban and rural areas. The affected areas include Thangsning, Thynroit, Mawlyngot, Jongksha, Kharang, Jatah Lakdong, Nohron, Lynshing, Mawlat and Laitkyrhong.
Lyngdoh expressed hope that the implementation of RDSS in these areas would not only address the recurring transformer failures but also bring much-needed relief and long-term benefits to the people.
