SHILLONG, DEC 17: The School of Social Work, Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), organized a Consumer Rights Awareness Programme on the theme “Enabling Consumers Through Knowledge” at Mawklot. The event aimed to educate consumers about their rights and protect them from unfair trade practices.
Dr. Nandaris Marwein, in his welcome address, emphasized the importance of consumer awareness.
M Nongneng, Rangbah Shnong, highlighted the need for consumers to be informed about their rights.
A role play by BSW 1st semester students showcased common consumer issues and their rights. Awareness sessions on the National Food Security Act, 2013, and the Consumer Protection Act, 1986/2019, were delivered by Marbanshngain Dkhar, Law Officer, Government of Meghalaya, and Dr. Maxwell Lyngdoh, Member, District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
The programme featured a Live Arts performance by Careen J. Langstieh and her team, and posters on consumer rights were displayed and handed over to the village headman.
Speaking on the occasion, resource persons emphasized the importance of empowering consumers with knowledge and information to make informed choices and protect their rights.
The programme was part of the 2025 National Consumer Rights Day observance, which includes a jingle titled “Tip La Ki Hok” being aired on Red FM and Big FM, social media awareness campaigns, and video documentation.
