The markets in Guwahati are proving it right with Modi-themed Holi gear becoming the talk of the town.
With Holi just a day away, the festive spirit in Guwahati is in full swing. The bustling markets, especially Fancy Bazar, are overflowing with colors, festive powders, and an unexpected trend—Narendra Modi-themed pichkaris and masks. These Holi essentials, adorned with images of the Prime Minister, have turned into the season’s hottest-selling items, drawing enthusiastic buyers, especially children.
The festival of colors has always been a time for fun, but this year, politics has blended seamlessly into the celebration.
Shopkeepers are reporting a massive surge in demand for Modi-themed items, along with pichkaris and stickers featuring BJP leaders like Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Not to be left behind, even Pushpa 2-themed Holi gear is flying off the shelves.
Prices for these trending Holi items vary, with Modi-themed pichkaris ranging from Rs. 200 to Rs. 700, while Modi masks are priced between Rs. 80 and Rs. 100. Some shops are even selling high-end versions, with Modi pichkaris touching Rs. 600 and Modi masks going up to Rs. 250.
One shopkeeper, overwhelmed by the response, said, “We’ve never seen such demand for Modi pichkaris before! Everything is selling out fast. These products come from Delhi, and this year, they’re more popular than ever.”
Customers, too, are embracing this unique mix of festivity and political fandom. A local shopper shared, “We came to buy Holi colors, but these Modi masks and pichkaris caught our attention. The kids love them! This Holi is going to be extra special.”
