Shillong, Aug 20: West Shillong MLA Mohendro Rapsang has expressed his desire to contest from the National People’s Party (NPP) in the 2023 Assembly elections. This comes after recent speculations that he is likely to join BJP.
However, Rapsang clarified that he is yet to join any party and is yet to have discussions with any party. Although, he shared that many parties have approached him, but he is inclined toward NPP.
“Though I have been contacted by several political parties in the state. Even my friends in UDP has also asked why I am not joining with them. BJP MLA Hek also is like a family (he) has called me, so there has been many to contact me,” he said.
Mentionably, Rapsang along with 4 other legislators was suspended by the Congress for supporting the NPP-led MDA, which also has BJP as its constituent.
Couple of week back, NPP national vice president Prestone Tynsong had refused to comment on rumors of Rapsang’s likelihood to join BJP despite having an intention to join the NPP. He had expressed that Rapsang and other MLAs will never disclose right now as to which party they will join due to fear of disqualification.
