Shillong, July 15: The Meghalaya government’s idea to identify an area near TB Hospital as the place to relocate the 342 families of the Harijan colony has once again been met with strong opposition from the constituency MLA Mohendro Rapsang.

West Shillong suspended Congress MLA Mohendro Rapsang on Thursday said that in his first meeting with the deputy chief minister he had informed him that the government was just exploring the possibilities. “Today I have seen the news that the govt has submitted a report to the HC, now whether the TB Hospital Area has been identified to relocate permanently or it is a proposal that we are yet to know,” stated Rapsang.

He further mentioned that on their end, as an MLA and along with the dorbar Shnong ,they strongly oppose this move.

The West Shillong MLA cited that it is due to the area being a highly congested area and densely populated. Rapsang stated that adding another colony to that area will only be another added problem altogether.

“So we don’t want that, we have no resentment against the people from any colony, the core problem is the area being densely populated,” mentioned Rapsang.
He further cited another reason that the area is meant for a hospital, to treat people and not to make a colony.

Standing firm on his opposition, Rapsang said that based on these grounds they oppose the government’s idea.

The MLA has also decided to meet the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong again, since Tynsong heads the High Level Committee (HLC). Rapsang informed that this time he will be accompanied by the Dorbar Shnong of the area, to appeal that this is not the place to relocate these 342 families.
