Moidams of Assam to gain global recognition with UNESCO World Heritage Status, PM Modi

Guwahati, July 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the historic Moidams of Assam are set to gain more recognition and will get more traction following their nomination to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Highlighting the significance of the World Heritage Committee meeting, Modi expressed pride in hosting the program, stating, “This is India’s 43rd World Heritage Site and North East India’s first to receive Cultural World Heritage status.” he said. He inaugurated the session on Monday.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the unique cultural significance of the Moidams would attract greater global interest. The nomination of the Moidams, particularly those of the Ahom Dynasty, has been endorsed by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).

ASSAM CM IN NEW DELHI : Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will discuss key issues of the state with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday at New Delhi including Charaideo Maidam issue.

“The Centre has decided to nominate the Charaideo Maidam for the UNESCO World Heritage Site which is a good news for the state. Kaziranga National Park and Manas National Park is already UNESCO world Heritage site and if Charaideo maidam is selected then Assam will have three world heritage site,” Sarma stated.

“In Assam, as natural heritage, we have Kaziranga National Park and Manas National park which were already tag as UNESCO World heritage site but as cultural aspects, the Charaideo Maidam was listed as World heritage site by the central government. It was a demand of the people of Assam and I have put forward the people’s demand infront of Prime Minister Narendra Modi a few years ago and he recommended the Charaideo maidam for the world heritage site,” Sarma said.

Sarma is on a three-day visit where he will meet several union ministers where he will discuss key issues of the state.

Taking to social media, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Today I have come to New Delhi for three-day vist and tomorrow I will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discuss matters related to Assam. PM Modi became the Prime Minster for third consecutive term but after he has taken the office of PM, I have not interacted with him. I will discuss several key issues of the state with him, especially the flood situation of Assam will be given the top most priority during the meeting” he said.

“Around 27 lakh people in the state are facing problem after unable to acquire Aadhaar card since the biometric were locked. Many people’s name was published in the final draft of the NRC but still they having problem in the biometric. I will discuss the matter with Union home minister Amit Shah and try to find out ways to solve the problem,” Sarma stated.
