Shillong, Feb 11: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has warned of strong action against the 5 Congress MLAs for joining the ruling NPP-led MDA government which also has BJP as a coalition partner.

While the exact course of action wasn’t disclosed, MPCC president and Shillong MP, Vincent H. Pala, said he will be writing to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) conveying the views and suggestions of the MPCC members, adding that the Committee members are in favour of strong action against the party MLAs.

“To punish them is above my jurisdiction but it’s upon the higher authorities at the AICC to punish them,” Pala said. He also added that AICC is also not in favour of the party legislators joining MDA.

He further stated that all the 5 MLAs are likely to be suspended and may be served a showcause notice.

Prior to talking to the press, the MPCC had convened a meeting on Friday which was attended by two of the five MLAs Mohendro Rapsang and Mayralborn Syiem.
