Shillong, Apr 24: There was a major upset of sorts in Group H at Mawkyrwat where Rangdajied United FC (RUFC) were held to a 1-1 draw by Mawlarshong SC in the ongoing 5th Meghalaya State League (MSL 5).
RUFC are the first of the giant Shillong-based clubs not to win this year.
Hopefullness Wanniang gave Mawlarshong the lead in the 18th minute before Gideon Mukhim equalised for Rangdajied just before half-time (41’). Despite expectations from one of Shillong’s prominent clubs, Rangdajied failed to find a winner in the second half.
Elsewhere, defending champions Mawlai SC secured a 4-1 win over Laskein SCSC in Group C at Amlarem. Goals from Syndongmiki Lyngdoh (32’), Danzel Derique Umdor (34’), Damanbhalang Chyne (41’) and Lovingstar Suting (70’) sealed the result beyond doubt for Mawlai. However, Bundaki Lamare (85’) netted a late consolation for Laskein.
At Mairang, Langsning FC thrashed Umlakro SC 6-0 in Group F. Nelson Rymbai came off the bench to score twice (77’, 87’), while Samuel Phawa (35’), Kyrmenskhem Mukhim (52’), Donlad Diengdoh (71’) and Morningstar Khongkiang (90’) completed the rout.
In Group B, Nangkiew Irat cruised to a 7-1 win over Mawlum Tyrsad SCC in Shillong. Neblejohn Lyngkhoi scored a hat-trick (9’, 12’, 42’), with additional goals from Nikelson Bina (12’), Dibinroy Nongspung (71’) and substitute Justerwell Tham (82’, 84’). Pherdinan Khongsit (90’) scored a late goal for Mawlum Tyrsad.
In Group G, Attong Matgrik FC revived their campaign with a 2-1 win over Maram FC in Williamnagar. Pilman Ch Marak (7’P) and Willang Jasrang G Momin (27’) scored early, while Bris Taro (45’) pulled one back for Maram.
Meanwhile, in Group D at Khliehriat, Rymbai Shkenshynriah SC defeated Ladthadlaboh SC 3-0 in an all-Jaintia Hills clash. Skilful Tariang (33’) and Hesmiki Rymbai (51’, 81’) scored for Rymbai Shkenshynriah.
