Guwahati, June 22: A 26-year-old woman police constable was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her rented accommodation in the Panikhaiti area of Guwahati on Sunday, prompting an investigation by local police.

The deceased has been identified as Dipamoni Hira, who was posted at Panikhaiti Police Station and had reportedly been living alone in the rented house for the past three years.

According to preliminary information, concern was raised after her husband, who resides in Nagaon, was unable to contact her despite repeated attempts on Sunday morning. After failing to reach her, he informed the house owner and requested that someone check on her.

The house owner subsequently entered the room and found the constable lying dead inside, following which police were alerted.

A team of police and forensic experts rushed to the spot and collected samples as part of the investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Police officials said the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear and that all angles are being examined.

“The exact circumstances and cause behind the incident are yet to be determined, and further investigation is underway,” a police official said.
