TURA, June 22: A stellar lineup of performers transformed the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) into a lively hub of music, culture and community spirit to celebrate World Music Day.
Organised by the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Grassroots Music Programme (CMMGMP), the festival highlighted Meghalaya’s thriving music scene while providing a major platform for emerging artists, DJs and original songwriters from across the state.
Though delayed briefly by wet weather, the event quickly gathered momentum as crowds streamed into the venue for an afternoon and evening packed with performances. The festival opened with an energetic set by DJ Kohobodi, followed by performances from CMMGMP Bloomers—The Perus, Anonidos, Afterglow, and Saljrang & Band.
The audience was also treated to performances by winners of the Original Song Competition organised by Nokpante Productions, alongside crowd-pleasing acts from Rust N Trust, Still Not Famous and Cherry Mrong.
One of the festival’s biggest attractions was the showcase of CMMGMP artists, including Noga Sangma, Silsang, Enosh, Tony Balsam, Ahaia, Kido Alph and Snam, whose original compositions drew enthusiastic responses from the crowd.
As darkness fell, the celebrations reached their peak with headline performances by popular rock band Northwind and acclaimed singer Meba Ofilia, whose high-energy sets had the audience singing and dancing along.
Rangsakona MLA Subir Marak attended the event, joining music enthusiasts in celebrating Meghalaya’s rich musical heritage and growing creative economy.
Beyond the music, the festival grounds buzzed with activity as local entrepreneurs set up food and beverage stalls, turning the venue into a festive marketplace that blended entertainment with local enterprise.
Organisers said the event forms part of broader efforts to nurture grassroots talent, strengthen Meghalaya’s reputation as India’s music capital, and promote tourism through cultural events.

Presented in collaboration with PRIME Meghalaya, Nokpante Productions, A-Care Hospitals, Meghalayan Age Ltd., and Meghalaya Tourism, the festival underscored the state’s commitment to supporting artists and creating new opportunities for the creative sector.
With thousands of cheers, original music and community participation, the World Music Day celebration once again showcased why Meghalaya remains one of the country’s most vibrant musical landscapes.
