Kohima, June 28: Thousands of students across Nagaland can begin applying for higher education scholarships from July 1, with the Department of Higher Education announcing the opening of applications for the Centrally Sponsored Post Matric Scholarship (PMS-ST) and the State Merit & Research Scholarship for the 2026-27 academic session.
The application window for both schemes will remain open until September 30, 2026, and both fresh and renewal candidates have been directed to apply online through the designated scholarship portals.
The Post Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Tribe students (PMS-ST) will be available through the National Scholarship Portal and is aimed at supporting eligible ST students pursuing studies from Class XI onwards, including college and university education.
Meanwhile, the State Merit & Research Scholarship, to be accessed through the Nagaland Common Scholarship Portal, will cater to meritorious students and research scholars who meet the prescribed academic and income criteria.
According to the official schedule, student registration and submission of applications will take place between July 1 and September 30, followed by institutional verification of applications by October 31. Students will have until November 15 to rectify defective applications, while state-level verification will be completed by November 30.
A senior official from the Department of Higher Education said the portals would go live on July 1 and advised students to keep all necessary documents ready to avoid last-minute issues.
“No applications will be accepted after September 30, and students are encouraged to apply early rather than wait for the deadline,” the official said.
The department has also cautioned applicants to carefully follow the portal guidelines, as incomplete applications, incorrect information, or missing documents could lead to rejection.
The scholarship schemes have become a vital source of financial support for students in Nagaland, particularly those pursuing higher education outside their home districts and states. The Post Matric Scholarship, in particular, has helped thousands of tribal students continue their studies by covering academic and maintenance expenses.
Students seeking further information have been advised to visit the National Scholarship Portal and the Nagaland Common Scholarship Portal once the application process begins next month.
