Dimapur, Sept 8: In a major crackdown, Nagaland police have busted an organised sex trafficking network in Kohima, rescuing a minor girl and arresting nine individuals, including the key masterminds.
The operation was launched after Kohima Women Police Station registered a suo motu FIR based on a missing person complaint. Acting swiftly, investigators traced the victim to a hotel in Kohima on August 30, where she was rescued and later provided medical care and counselling.
According to police, the survivor revealed in her statement that she had been coerced into sex work and sexually exploited by multiple persons. Based on her testimony, officers arrested the prime accused, who admitted to operating as both a sex worker and a pimp. The accused was reportedly working under the main trafficker, who lured women and arranged clients, primarily from Guwahati and Shillong.
“We launched the operation after receiving intelligence inputs. All nine accused have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody following police interrogation,” a senior police official confirmed.
