Kohima, June 17: Nagaland is stepping up its renewable energy ambitions, with Power Minister K.G. Kenye calling for greater public participation to help the state achieve its target of 10,900 rooftop solar installations under the Nagaland Solar Mission.
Speaking at a review meeting with empanelled solar vendors in Kohima, Kenye said the transition to clean energy would require a collective effort from the government, service providers and consumers. He noted that while solar power is still a relatively new concept in the state, Nagaland has immense potential to harness renewable energy and reduce dependence on conventional power sources.
The minister stressed the need for stronger public awareness and community engagement to accelerate adoption of rooftop solar systems, describing them as a sustainable solution to recurring power shortages and rising energy demands.
Expressing satisfaction over the increasing number of installations across the state, Kenye said wider use of solar energy could improve energy security while contributing to a cleaner and greener future.
Principal Secretary for Power Dr. K.D. Vizo urged all stakeholders to intensify efforts to meet the state’s rooftop solar target and ensure timely implementation of projects under the mission.
During the meeting, certificates of appreciation were presented to the three best-performing vendors — Elmechent, Aboriginal and Symbios Green Energy — in recognition of their contribution to expanding solar adoption in Nagaland.
Officials said the rooftop solar initiative forms a key part of the state’s broader push towards renewable energy and sustainable development.
