According to official details, ₹4.47 crore was allocated for setting up 20 farmers’ markets at ₹50 lakh each, while another ₹4.45 crore was released for establishing 10 larger farmers’ markets at ₹1 crore each. Additionally, ₹17.19 lakh was sanctioned under the Community Development Programme for the Tiwa (Lalung) community in Ri-Bhoi’s Umsning Block, and ₹48.87 lakh was released for the construction of a school building at Mawthadraishan, West Khasi Hills.

In a major step to strengthen youth employment, the NEC has sanctioned gap funding of ₹51.17 lakh for residential costs linked to skill training in Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC), alongside IT-ITES sectors. Approved on August 8, 2025, and to be implemented by the North Eastern Region Community Resources Management Society (NERCORMS), Shillong, the project aims to train and certify around 400 youth from across the North-East. With India’s AVGC industry projected to grow from ₹188 billion in 2023 to ₹419 billion by 2027, the initiative is expected to boost employability, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods in the region.

Further, the NEC released the second instalment of ₹2.33 crore on August 8 for the “Establishment of Scientific Smoked Meat Production Units in North East India,” originally sanctioned at ₹4.84 crore. Under this project, 17 scientific smoke houses will be set up across five states—Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Nagaland. The units are expected to produce 867 MT of dried pork annually, create 34 direct jobs, benefit nearly 2,000 people indirectly, and significantly reduce carcinogens in smoked meat, thereby lowering cancer risks in the region.

During the same month, NERCORMS also completed a study on mobile and internet connectivity in North-East villages, providing key insights to strengthen digital infrastructure.

In addition, two state-level workshops were successfully conducted in Meghalaya in August: one on conservation awareness of indigenous fruits, vegetables, and medicinal plants in East Khasi Hills (funded at ₹8 lakh), and another on Geographical Indication (GI) products and user authorization for farmers (funded at ₹8.85 lakh).

The NEC emphasized that these projects reflect its commitment to supporting Meghalaya’s growth through agricultural upliftment, improved education infrastructure, advanced skill development, and health-conscious food production practices.
