NEHU Tura Staff to launch ‘pen down–tool down’ protest today over pending grievances

Must read

Tura, June 16: The North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Tura Campus Staff Welfare Association has announced a pen down–tool down agitation beginning from Tuesday, alleging that repeated appeals to the university authorities and local administration over several staff grievances have gone unaddressed.

In a letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor of NEHU, the association expressed “profound dismay and disappointment” over what it described as the authorities’ failure to respond to its genuine demands despite several representations submitted earlier.

The association stated that due to the “complete lack of sympathy and insensitivity” shown towards the concerns of employees, it had been compelled to resort to agitation from June 16.

Among the key demands raised by the association are the implementation of the Departmental Promotion Order (DPOT), a review of alleged arbitrary promotions and demotions, immediate release of gratuity benefits, prompt registration of employees under the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF), and timely disbursement of salaries to casual employees.

The staff body said it hopes the university authorities will take immediate steps to address the issues and prevent further escalation of the situation.

Copies of the letter were forwarded to the Pro Vice Chancellor of NEHU Tura Campus, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, all Heads of Departments and Sections, the Vice President of the Post Graduate Students’ Union (PGSU) Tura Campus and leaders of the Garo Students’ Union (GSU).

The association has also directed its members to assemble in front of the Administrative Building after recording attendance in their respective departments and sections on the day the agitation begins. Cooks and farm employees have been exempted from the protest.
