Guwahati, April 12: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested one person and seized incriminating materials in a major crackdown targeting revival attempts by the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI).
Raids conducted on Wednesday in Jharkhand and Assam, in coordination with local police, led to the arrest of Binod Munda, alias Sukkhwa, an armed cadre wanted in four PLFI cases. NIA teams also recovered PLFI documents, communication equipment, and cash believed to be linked to extortion activities.
This arrest follows the earlier apprehension of two other PLFI members in a case registered last October. The NIA alleges the group was attempting to revive its operations after the arrest of its leader, Dinesh Gope.
As part of the revival activities, PLFI members and cadres were involved in generating funds through extortion from various coal traders, transporters, railway contractors, and businessmen in Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Odisha, as per the NIA investigations.
The NIA continues its investigation into the PLFI’s revival efforts.
