Guwahati, March 17: A cross-border route along India’s Northeast has come under scrutiny after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested one American and six Ukrainian nationals in a suspected anti-India terror case.
Officials said the foreign nationals had entered India legally but later travelled to Mizoram without the required permits. They are suspected to have crossed into Myanmar, where they may have come in contact with armed groups.
Sources said the case may also involve the use of drones, with some equipment believed to have been sourced from Europe. This has raised concerns about the use of new technology in cross-border activities.
The arrests were made from multiple locations, and the investigation has now widened.
Agencies are examining digital records, funding sources, and possible local links that may have helped the group move across regions.
Officials said the case is not limited to the arrests but points to a possible emerging route being used along the eastern border.
Security agencies are continuing their probe, as the findings could have wider implications for security in the Northeast.
