Imphal, June 16: Security forces have arrested nine suspected insurgents, including a woman cadre, during a series of counter-insurgency operations conducted across Manipur’s Imphal Valley over the past 36 hours, officials said on Monday.
The arrested individuals are allegedly linked to several banned militant outfits, including the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF)/People’s Liberation Army (PLA), National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM), United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and United Revolutionary Front (URF).
Police said several of those apprehended were allegedly involved in extortion activities in different parts of the valley. A substantial cache of arms, ammunition and other incriminating materials was recovered during the operations.
Security agencies have intensified efforts to dismantle insurgent networks operating in the state and launched a statewide manhunt to apprehend other cadres linked to the banned groups.

“We have launched a massive crackdown against insurgent groups active in the state. So far, we have arrested several cadres of various rebel organisations and seized arms and ammunition from their possession,” a senior police official said.
The latest arrests come amid ongoing security operations in Manipur, which has witnessed prolonged ethnic unrest since May 2023. According to official estimates, more than 270 people have lost their lives and over 62,000 have been displaced due to the violence.
