Shillong, Feb 1: National People’s Party (NPP) candidate from Pynthorumkhrah, Rocky Hek, on Wednesday filed his nomination and assured to eradicate the menace of drugs from the constituency if elected after the elections, to be held on February 27.
Rocky, the nephew of five-time legislator of Pynthorumkhrah Alexander Laloo Hek of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was accompanied by his family members and supporters.
Expressing confidence to defeat his uncle, he said, “We are hundred percent confident to win as the constituency needs a change.”
He said there has been total lack of development in the constituency and the youth are into drugs because they have no proper employment. “I assure that if I am elected I will do whatever it takes to get rid of the drug menace – which nobody is talking about – and to uplift the livelihood of the people of the constituency,” he said.
He further assured to set up a job placement cell for the youth and ensure all round development in the constituency, which according to him at present does not have proper roads, water supply, streetlights and others.
“I want to improve livelihood of the people instead of giving them Rs 500 or Rs 1,000,” the NPP candidate said while assuring to fully implement the various schemes of the government.
Asked on decision to contest against his own uncle, Rocky said that it was the wishes of the people of the constituency.
“You can witness by your own eyes the love and affection people have for me – they came walking right from Mawpat – Nongmensong (to the DC office) and I am not paying or giving any money for food but they came by themselves,” he claimed.
The NPP candidate further alleged that there is more development in South Shillong constituency represented by another BJP MLA Sanbor Shullai when compared to Pynthorumkhrah.
“We have seen in the past 10 years, the Prime Minister has given lots of development especially for the North East region but we can see with our own eyes, many developments were delivered in Laban constituency but in our constituency there is no development. You can go and check by yourself what development is there in my constituency,” he said.
He further assured that he would fully concentrate on the development of the constituency once elected as MLA.
