Dibrugarh, Jan 27: The NSCN/GPRN has claimed responsibility for the attack on an Assam Rifles camp at Ranglom village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Monday morning.
In a statement, the outfit said its Naga Army tactical unit targeted the 4th Assam Rifles camp around 8 am. It claimed that casualties, if any, could not be confirmed due to an alleged lockdown of the area by security forces. The group described the attack as a “necessary step,” accusing Indian security forces of harassing civilians and asserting that it would continue operations to “defend the Naga homeland.”
The attack took place during Republic Day celebrations. Security sources said the Assam Rifles camp at Ranglom, located close to the India–Myanmar border and around 10 km from the Changlang district headquarters, came under fire at about 8:45 am. The assault is believed to have been a joint operation by cadres of ULFA (Independent) and NSCN (K-YA).
Assam Rifles personnel launched a counter-offensive following the attack. No injuries have been reported so far.
In the aftermath, security has been tightened across the border areas, and a joint operation has been launched to track down the attackers.
