Dibrugarh, Feb 11: An active cadre of the NSCN-K (Khango Konyak) faction surrendered before security forces on February 10.

The surrendered militant has been identified as SS Lieutenant Wangkhu Lowang (32), son of Wangdiap Lowang and a resident of Moktowa village under Dadam in Tirap district.

According to official sources, Lowang laid down arms before a joint team comprising Tirap Police, the 44th Assam Rifles, and the 36th Battalion of the CRPF at Khonsa. Security forces recovered a 7.65 mm pistol (made in Kachin, registered No. 4702) along with one magazine and six rounds of live ammunition from his possession.

A senior police official said security agencies remain in contact with several cadres who have shown willingness to surrender.

“The region has long faced insurgency. It is now time to restore lasting peace and stability,” the official stated.

The NSCN-K (Khango Konyak) faction emerged following a split from the main NSCN-K group around 2018–2019 and entered into a ceasefire agreement with the Government of India in April 2019.

Recently, a self-styled Lieutenant of the NSCN (Niki Sumi) faction, Wangjong Wangsu (37) from Longding district, also surrendered before security forces in Khonsa, indicating a continued push toward normalization in the region.
