Oil Tanker overturns and catches fire at 11th Mile; No casualties reported

Shillong, July 15: An oil tanker heading towards Jorabat from Guwahati overturned and caught fire late Monday night at 11th Mile along the National Highway near the NRL petrol pump, Assam.

The tanker, bearing registration number MZ 01 AA 9268, reportedly lost control, capsized, and caught fire, triggering panic among nearby residents and commuters as thick black smoke and flames were visible from a distance.

Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) teams from both Byrnihat and Assam were immediately informed and rushed to the spot. They successfully brought the fire under control.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.

Due to the incident, a massive traffic jam occurred. However, with the joint efforts of Assam and Meghalaya Police, the road was eventually cleared this morning and traffic resumed normal flow after several hours of clearing.

Ri Bhoi Police also reported that the oil spill may have spread towards Mawsmai village. A team has been dispatched to monitor the situation closely.
