Shillong, Sept 25: In a political turn of events, the opposition in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), comprising the United Democratic Party (UDP) and the Hill State People’s Democratic Party, staged a walkout protest during the Council session on Monday.
The opposition’s protest was sparked by the decision of the NPP-led Executive Committee (EC), in collaboration with Congress, to proceed with the Elaka Administration Amendment Bill, 2023.

The opposition had advised the EC to refrain from passing the Bill outright, instead suggesting it be sent first to the Select Committee for a thorough review, citing numerous conflicting sections governing the Hima.
However, the EC opted to table the Bill, prompting the opposition to stage their walkout.
