GHADC Budget Session: Opposition assails NPP alliance with barrage of queries

Tura, Sept 7 : Delay in implementation of developmental projects for which Rs. 100 crore was released by the central government to GHADC more than five years ago and the appointment of advisers at a time of financial crisis, were the burning issues raised by the Congress and opposition members during Tuesday’s Budget Session in Tura.

The three day session ends on Wednesday with the election of the Deputy Chairman, for which both ruling NPP alliance and Congress are fielding candidates.Issues raised and their replies

– Opposition Congress MDC Nehru D Sangma asked about the number of projects taken up under the special central scheme of Rs. 100 crores and its present status including delays. Executive Member (EM) in-charge civil works, Nathawal S Marak informed that 733 projects were taken up, of which 680 have been completed while a further 73 have not been taken up.

– Cherak W Momin of the Congress sought status on the Garo Customary Law to which CEM Benedic Marak announced that it is currently being examined by the Law Department, Government of Meghalaya.

– On a question by Agassi R Marak (Congress) about revenue generation projects, Deputy CEM Nikman Ch Marak informed the House that there are eight revenue generating projects, all of which are market complexes in Tura and Williamnagar, including one in Baghmara.

– Alphonsus Marak, Williamnagar MDC (Congress) sought reply about GHADC appointing a chief adviser to CEM and Chairman for its high powered committee. While CEM Benedic Marak replied that appointments were made to both the posts, yet, when Tura BJP MDC Bernard Marak sought answer about the qualifications of the duo, the CEM declined.
