Opposition to transfer of Baghmara DC

Must read

Tura, July 2: Student and social groups of South Garo Hills (SGH), led by the GSU Mindikgre unit, have written to the state government seeking the retaining of the district Deputy Commissioner, S.F. Hamid who has been transferred this week.

The President of the Mindikgre regional unit of the GSU, Greneth M Sangma wrote to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma seeking a stay order on the transfer of the DC.

In the petition to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the GSU urged that the DC ought to be allowed to continue in office as head of South Garo Hills District in the interest of development and peoples’ welfare.

“Deputy Commissioner S.F. Hamid is sincere and a committed servant of the state. Under his leadership, the district saw many ongoing projects and development of the region.

Therefore, it is requested that he be allowed to continue in his current posting,” Greneth mentioned in his petition. The GSU has also called upon the MLAs of South Garo Hills district to persuade the government with regard to the matter.

However, it is worth pointing out that the transfer decision of the Meghalaya government for Hamid was based on the officer’s request for his cadre change to his home state of Jammu & Kashmir. Hamid had applied for the cadre change to the central government. Thus, he has been granted the cadre change and is now going to Jammu & Kashmir.
